“Cleaner Air, Safer & Sustainable Roads”: what we aim to achieve in N’Djamena

YUSR is developing the “Cleaner Air, Safer & Sustainable Roads” initiative, which aims to improve unpaved roads, reduce dust and strengthen urban drainage in N’Djamena.

The challenge

  • Dry season: dust rises with every vehicle, affecting air quality, visibility and daily life.
  • Rainy season: water collects and roads turn to mud, slowing or stopping traffic.
  • Untreated roads wear quickly and need constant, costly maintenance.

Building blocks of the solution

  1. Stabilisation: treating and improving the soil to increase bearing capacity.
  2. Road improvement: shaping the road and correcting its slopes.
  3. Dust reduction: less dust and mud, more comfort and safety.
  4. Drainage: protecting the road against water and ponding.

Our approach

Five steps: inspection and diagnosis, identifying the cause, choosing the right solution, execution, and monitoring with preventive maintenance — all preceded by laboratory testing to validate the formulation.

What we aim for

Less dust, more stable roads, lower maintenance costs and longer service life. The initiative is in development; we will share progress here.
